Rampant Villa will only get better – Bruce

-

STEVE Bruce admits there’s plenty more to come after Aston Villa hammered Burton.

The manager reckons his side have now set the standard and while he warned of any complacency in forthcoming fixtures, he admitted Villa still have plenty left in the tank.

“I enjoyed watching us,” said Bruce after the 4-0 win. “It is always nice when you have a convincing win away from home.

“We have gone back-toback away games now, scoring three at Barnsley and four at Burton. It gives us a nice platform going into the winter.”

Bruce had told his players to ‘take on the division’ after putting together a decent run of results. And they responded by turning on the style to see off Burton, who just couldn’t contain the rampant visitors.

So how is Bruce feeling now after having to answer questions about his future just THREE games into the season when it wasn’t going so well?

“You get off to a poor start and when you are manager here it is off with your head,” he said.

“The one thing you have to do is batten down the hatches, make sure your team responds and come out fighting and swinging.

“The start we had wasn’t good enough but I always thought we needed a bit of time. That is what you urge for.

“I have been here nearly a year. We still need a bit more.

“I don’t think we are there totally but we are far better than we were a while ago.”

Was the win over Burton the best performance of Bruce’s reign?

“Possibly, yes,” he said. “It is always nice when you win but it is the manner of it.

“The way we moved the ball the pace, the power and the finishing was excellent. We are in good shape.”
