Firm blazes trail in Asia, Europe & South America
BLACK Country stationery designer Write Size has blazed a trail in international expan- sion.
In less than two years, the company has been able to enter new markets in Asia, Europe and South America through a concerted programme of getting out there and meeting people face to face.
The firm, based in Brierley Hill, designs tools and books for children to make it easier for them to learn to write.
Its pens are shorter in length, have a wider diameter and a softer core.
Managing director Ross Williams explained the firm’s rapid overseas growth which saw it take home the Export Award.
“We have just released in China and are now in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai, New Zealand and America among others and we’ve achieved all of that in about 19 months,” he said.
“We didn’t have to target these places specifically, we simply attended exhibitions in Germany, Dubai and the US as international companies travel to these events and discover what we can offer.
“These exhibitions are still a great way of getting out into the world and seeing people.
“For example, we made contacts in China at an event in Germany.”
The company, which manufac- turers in America, China and Turkey, sells its products into retailers and counts Asda’s owner Walmart in the US and Toys R Us in Asia among its clients.
Mr Williams said the firm’s writing sets can also help with learning the basics of English.
“Why not do it at home and why not to do it early?” he added.
As the business approaches its third birthday, Mr Williams says he expects the company to continue expanding and reaching more locations and retailers.
He added: “The real problem we have is finding more manufacturers and staying up to date with the many different international issues when it comes to exporting.
“It is difficult, especially in places like China, but we are constantly growing and enjoying the whole experience.
