Firm rewarded for mentoring and its charitable foundation

HISTORIC Birmingham business Wesleyan has been recognised for its work in the city with the Contribution to the Community Award.

Wesleyan, which also won the coveted Company of the Year award, was founded in 1841 and provides financial services and specialist advice to professionals such as doctors, teachers, lawyers and dentists.

The company employs more than 1,000 people locally and also has a partnership with Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The award recognised the apprenticeship and mentoring programme set up by Wesleyan as well as a new charitable foundation which will give almost £1 mil- lion a year to good causes. Nathan Wallis is head of strategic communications and in charge of corporate responsibility.

He said the firm was grateful for the award and remained committed to the local community.

Nathan added: “The award is something that Wesleyan takes very seriously. As a local employer of nearly 1,500 people, looking after our community is as important as looking after our customers.

“Our partnership with Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the money we raised for that particular cause is something we are very proud of and are delighted to be recognised for by this award.”

Wesleyan does a lot of sponsorship work with the hospital after selecting it as its chosen charity in 2014, raising £250,000 in 12 months, and it is one of its biggest corporate sponsors.

Last year, Wesleyan celebrated its 175th anniversary, with chief executive Craig Errington also reaching 25 years of service, having started with the group as a financial consultant in his home town of Blackpool in 1991.
