Get ready for adventure...Bear Grylls attraction takes shape

-

WORK has begun on building a huge new Bear Grylls Adventure in Birmingham.

The attraction will boast the tallest high-rope challenge in Europe.

Standing five storeys high, it will be the first challenge visitors will see as they arrive at the new £20 million attraction at the NEC.

People will also be able to learn to scuba-dive and have a go at indoor skydiving.

“It’s coming along leaps and bounds,” said manager James Thomas. “People will arrive at Basecamp and be taught the various skills needed to complete the hero activities like scuba diving and indoor skydiving.

“They’ll even get a chance to go on the highest high ropes in Europe. The climbing walls will be based on climbing experiences around the world, like Yosemite National Park, taking climbing to the next level in theming and making the whole thing very immersive.”

The attraction, all set under one roof, is being built by Merlin Entertainments, the people behind Sea Life, Shrek Adventure, Alton Towers and the new Legoland Discovery Centre in Birmingham, which is also currently being built.

“There will be so many challenges, it will be impossible to complete them all in one day. Only Bear himself would be able to do it all in one day,” said Mr Thomas.

“In theory, you could do it all but it would be a huge undertaking and you’d have to be very fit and very brave. We expect people to come back and have numerous visits to complete all the challenges, rather than doing them in one day.”

Basecamp training is included in the admission fee, which starts at £25 per person, then prices will vary for different activities.

The attraction may also offer overnight camping as part of the adventure in the future.
