Council says sorry for its missed bin collections
BIRMINGHAM City Council has apologised for missed refuse bag collections as it began a major clear-up.
The ongoing collection crisis has been highlighted by angry residents who complained that whole roads were completely missed out binmen over the festive period.
In a statement on the council website, Councillor Lisa Trickett, cabinet member for clean streets, recycling and environment, has apologised for the mess.
She said: “I am very aware of the delay to collections which members of the public have been suffering over the last three weeks.
“Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience and be reassured we are doing everything we can to get things back to normal.”
Although the bin strike was resolved in November, many residents in areas like Yardley and Stechford complained that bins have not been emptied since before Christmas.
Roads affected include Broadstone Road and Wheatcroft Road.
Charlbury Crescent resident Mike Goulding said: “The bin strike was resolved, with a cost to taxpayers of £6.5 million. Here in B26, we have not had any collection of household or recycling since early December.
“Waste is now littering the streets and bins overflowing. I have raised this with the council who, although acknowledging my complaint, haven’t reacted.”
