‘Bit of a joker’ schoolboy hanged himself in ‘impulsive act’

-

A SCHOOLBOY hanged himself at his home following an argument with his parents over using a computer, an inquest heard.

Connor Robertson, 12, who suffered from Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), was discovered upstairs by his brother and died despite attempts to resuscitate him.

His mother Jacqueline Robertson, of Sopwith Croft, Castle Vale, told the inquest her son was just a lovely boy and “was an active child, a bit of a joker who loved his computers”.

She said he had been diagnosed with ADHD from 2011 and that he was on medication.

“He was not very happy going there and had a few problems, particularly with maths, but the school were trying to sort it out,” she said.

The weekend before he died the family had gone on a holiday to Wales.

His mother added: “There was no indiction whatsoever he would do anything like that. We got back and we had a lovely weekend. I cannot understand it.”

She said she had previously told her son he could not have his laptop and there had been some swearing.

He asked again when they got home on October 23 last year but he had again been told no and he went upstairs.

“It was about 10 or 20 minutes and I had a cup of tea because we had been travelling for about three hours,” said his mother.

“His brother went to go upstairs and said Connor had hung himself.”

She said her husband started chest compressions and CPR and an ambulance was called.

Mrs Robertson went on: “Connor was very adventurous.

“He would try different things. I think he may have done it just as a dare to himself.”

Coroner Louise Hunt said the medical cause of death was hanging and went on: “He suffered from ADHD which could make him impulsive.

“It seems to me on all the evidence this was an impulsive act. I do not believe he intended to kill himself.”

She recorded that he died from an impulsive self-inflicted act.
