Politicians trading principles for gongs

DEAR Editor, Nick Clegg has become a lord in the New Year’s Honours List.

I understand it is for services to tuition fees and the Tories.

I am beginning to understand politics more now.

The well-known MP goes back on all promises on a key issue and his constituency vote him out. The political establishment then honour him!

The other way is the John Prescott and Roy Hattersley route – denounce the House of Lords as being undemocratic throughout your political career and argue that it should be abolished. Then when you are asked to be a Lord, you accept! They then lecture us on principles!
