Barry: We’ve got something to build on

- Gareth Barry

GARETH Barry wants Albion to build on their “winning feeling” in Saturday’s crunch clash against his former club, Brighton.

The Baggies recorded a first win in four months when they beat League Two side Exeter City in last Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie at St James Park.

They will now target back-to-back wins when they take on the Seagulls, the club where Barry started his career as a trainee.

“The main thing was getting in the hat for the next round,” he said. “It also gives us that winning feeling in the dressing room that we’ve not had for a while. It’s something to build on. It’s a massive game against Brighton and we want to take the positives and that feeling of winning a football match into the weekend.”

Second-bottom and four points from safety, Albion have 16 games to transform their fortunes in the Premier League. The bottom half is so congested they are only nine points adrift of Watford in 10th place.

“We’re confident we can get out of it,” said Barry. “We’ve definitely got the players in the squad for that.

“I think the big thing is winning games at home. We need our fans behind us and Brighton at home is no better place to start.

“We need to beat Brighton and I won’t be thinking about anything other than that.”
