Royal Ballet appoints new interim chief
BIRMINGHAM Royal Ballet (BRB) has revealed a new interim chief executive for 12 months.
Caroline Miller joins BRB as it continues its busy 2017/18 season with 130 performances across England and Wales. It also embarks on an international tour to the USA and Japan from April.
Her appointment follows the departure of Jan Teo, who has stepped down, as reported in last week’s Post.
Ms Miller’s most recent position was executive director of Orlando Ballet in the USA and before that she was director of Dance UK for ten years.
During her tenure, she worked closely with Nick Allen at Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Jerwood Centre for Prevention and Treatment of Dance Injury to establish the first National Institute of Dance Medicine and Science.
She was recognised for this work in the 2014 Evening Standard list of 1,000 most influential Londoners and was awarded an OBE for Services to the Arts in 2017.
Ms Miller is currently vice chair of Studio Wayne McGregor.
Ms Miller said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Birmingham Royal Ballet and to be working alongside such great artistic and administrative talent.
“To join [director] David Bintley and the entire company at this exciting moment when Birmingham’s dance scene is rapidly developing with the new Dance Hub is a privilege.”
BRB chairman Professor Michael Clarke said: “On behalf of the board I am delighted to welcome Caroline Miller to Birmingham Royal Ballet.
“Caroline is an experienced and highly regarded dance professional with a long track record of achievement.
“She will work closely with David Bintley CBE and other colleagues to begin delivery of a new ambitious strategy as set out in the Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation funding application and business plan.”
