Huge cranes signal the next phase of Paradise
TWO giant new cranes have taken their place on the city’s skyline to herald the start of work on another major new office block.
The cranes, which stand at 80 metres and 50 metres tall, arrived on site for the development of the eightstorey Two Chamberlain Square office block on the city centre Paradise site.
It is the second building of the wider Paradise development and is due for completion in 2019. It will include a restaurant, bar and shops at ground level.
BAM Construction is carrying out the work with a team of over 200 construction workers. Two basement levels have already been created and the full frame of the new building will quickly become visible once the tower cranes are in place.
‘Tower Crane 4’ is one of the largest in Birmingham at 80 metres in height. ‘Tower Crane 3’ will be smaller at 50 metres.
The first building at Chamberlain Square is now nearing completion and will be let to accountants PwC. Work recently restarted on the office block after it stalled following the collapse of construction firm Carillion.
Rob Groves, regional director of Argent, development managers for Paradise, said: “The arrival of the two new tower cranes demonstrates in a very obvious way the gathering momentum around Paradise Birmingham.
“This is another major milestone as we move into an exciting phase of work over the next year. As well as the practical completion of our first two buildings, next year will see more of the public realm revealed for the benefit of everyone who lives in or visits the city.”
The wider Paradise development, between Chamberlain Square and Centenary Square, will see ten new buildings go up by 2025.
