Ped is ready for challenge in England

-

KRISTIAN Pedersen is ready for a new challenge after signing for Blues on a four-year deal.

Blues completed their first deal of the summer, plucking the highly-rated 23-year-old left-back from Union Berlin in Germany for a fee in the region of £2.2 million.

Pedersen had spent the last two seasons with Berlin, in the 2. Bundesliga, having joined them from HB Koge in his home country Denmark two years ago.

He admitted making the decision to leave was not easy, but it was the right time to take the next step in his career.

Pedersen said: “It is not easy for me to go because I felt very comfortable in Berlin.

“I have been able to develop very well here, but now it’s time to take another step. That’s why I’m looking forward to the Championship and Birmingham.

“Thanks to the fans, the team, the whole club – the support here at Union was really great. I will always keep this special club in good memory. Thank you Union!”

Blues beat off competition to sign Pedersen and Union’s director of sport, Oliver Runhert, is backing the player to make an impact for Garry Monk’s side.

“Kristian Pedersen is a young player who has undergone an incredible development over the last few years, which is certainly not over yet,” he said.

“He quickly found his way around Germany and worked his way up as a team member. We wish that he can build on this in England and continue his way successfully.”
