statement from any government.

I still find it difficult to believe that the working people of Britain could have been persuaded to vote to leave the EU which for all its faults is based on peace, stability, collaboration and protecting the rights and conditions of work and employment, food safety, pollution control, international arrest warrants and justice for all. Did any of us vote to abolish these values? Before the referendum Nigel Farage said “If we lose this referendum, we will fight for another!”

Now that the boot is on the other foot of course it’s a different story.

I went to an Amnesty International conference when the Vietnam War was at its worst and Bianca Jagger said: “In America, if you speak against the War you are accused of being unpatriotic and stabbing our soldiers in the back.”

The extreme Brexiters are now using the same despicable tactics accusing anyone who still questions our withdrawal as thwarting the so-called “will of the people”.

The referendum reflected the confusion of the British people, not the will.

Only half the population voted and that half were almost evenly divided 48 per cent to 52 per cent, ie – only one quarter of the country voted to leave. That’s not democracy! What’s done cannot be undone but what’s not done can be avoided if only the people and Parliament have the courage to do it as more and more facts become known.

The country is being run by headless chickens and a few aggressive, ego-centric bullies.
