Global hunt for new ballet director

-

BIRMINGHAM Royal Ballet has launched an international hunt for a new director.

The famous performing arts company is seeking a replacement for David Bintley who is stepping down at the end of July 2019 after first joining the company as director in 1995.

The new director will provide artistic leadership for the company and draw on classical and contemporary works as well as connect with communities in Birmingham, London and the other cities in the UK and around the world in which the royal ballet performs.

Mr Bintley announced in March that he intended to step down from the role at the end of the 2018/19 season. The news came just days after then chief executive Jan Teo revealed she would be leaving her post, to be replaced Caroline Miller on an interim basis for 12 months.

Sir David Normington, chairman of Birmingham Royal Ballet, said: “This is an important moment in Birmingham Royal Ballet’s development. We are looking for some- one who will build on David Bintley’s wonderful legacy but also bring us new ideas and fresh artistic direction.

“We are very ambitious for the future and are, therefore, deliberately conducting the widest possible international search and drawing on the advice of some of the industry’s leading figures.”

A panel has been set up to inform the recruitment process which includes Kevin O’Hare, the former Birmingham Royal Ballet principal dancer.
