Construction work to start on designer village
CONSTRUCTION work is set to start on a new designer outlet village opening in Staffordshire.
Developer and operator McArthurGlen is leading the £160 million project to create a new outlet hub in Cannock which will be akin to popular shopping destinations Cheshire Oaks and Bicester Village.
The new project will span 285,000 sq ft of retail space across two phases, with phase one comprising units for around 80 different retailers, restaurants, children’s play area, bike parking and 1,400 car parking spaces.
That is due for completion in 2020, with phase two starting afterwards.
The site at Mill Green McArthurGlen’s seventh in and 26th globally.
Joint managing director of development Gary Bond said: “We are thrilled to start construction on this will be the UK milestone nock.
“The new centre will generate significant employment for the local area and create a new retail destination for the region, serving 11 million development for Can- local residents. Cannock Designer Outlet will be built to the highest standards of architectural design and sustainability, reflecting and respecting the surrounding natural landscape.”
The outlet village is being delivered as a joint venture with Aviva Investors, U+I and Merry Hill developer The Richardson Family and is expected to generate 1,000 jobs for the local area.
