Foxes youngster Harry joins Baggies on loan

-

TALENTED Leicester City youngster Harvey Barnes will join Championship side West Bromwich Albion on loan for the 2018/19 season.

The 20-year-old Academy graduate, who has been with Leicester since the age of nine and has just signed a new four-year contract, made his senior debut in the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League and impressed on loan with MK Dons in League 1 in the same season.

He will now join up with Darren Moore’s West Bromwich Albion side as they look to mount a promotion challenge.

England Under-20s interna- tional Barnes has already experienced Championship football, having played 23 times and scored five goals for Barnsley in the division last season.

“He then returned to the Leicester City fold, where he appeared five times for Claude Puel’s side in the second half of the campaign.

Barnes underlined his promise with a series of eye-catching performances in the MK Dons midfield in 2016/17, when he scored six times in just 21 appearances, winning before ending the season as top scorer for England Under-20s in their triumphant Toulon Tournament campaign.

Barnes already feels right at home after helping his new side beat Barnsley on tuesday night.

The 20-year-old midfielder was thrown straight into action and played the final 30 minutes, after replacing James Morrison.

And although he couldn’t quite muster a goal or an assist, at a ground where he contributed plenty on loan last season, Barnes was pleased with his cameo.

“It was nice to get out there, get the first few minutes under my belt and just get comfort- able on the pitch with the boys,” he said. “The last few days we were just getting all the last details sorted.

“Having a game so quickly probably helps you to settle in.

“Getting in around the squad – it’s probably the best place to learn. “It was an interesting game. “We had some great chances, especially second half when I came on.

“The game opened up a bit and we played some good football.”

Against a tiring Barnsley backline, Barnes showed glimpses of the pace and power he can bring.
