VILLA have signed Norwegian goalkeeper Orjan Nyland from Bundesliga II side Ingolstadt. Nyland becomes Villa’s third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Atletico Madrid ‘keeper Andre Moreira and Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe on season-long loan deals.

The 27-year-old is Villa’s first permanent signing under new owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens and has signed a three-year deal at Villa Park.

Nyland said: “I’m looking forward to playing for this big club and can’t wait to get started.

“Everything has moved very quickly and I’m really happy to be here and call myself a Villa player.

“I also can’t wait to play in front of the fans – I’ve heard they’re quite fan- tastic. I’m looking forward to experiencing their support for myself.

“This club belongs in the Premier League and I’m keen to play a part in getting us back there.”

Villa boss Steve Bruce now has four senior goalkeepers to choose from in Nyland, Moreira, Jed Steer and Mark Bunn.

“It’s complicated for us with the goalkeeper because we need cover,” he said when asked why he needs so many shot-stoppers.

“It’s a big position. Jed is a very capable goalkeeper. He’s had 20 months of trying to get himself fit and he understands that we’ve done it (signed two new goalkeepers) because we’re short.”

And 20-year-old utility man Tuanzebe spent the second half of last season in the Midlands but only made five appearances due to injury.

Tuanzebe proved to be a popular addition to Bruce’s ranks and the manager was impressed with what he saw of the youngster, who was primarily used at right-back.

Tuanzebe’s preferred position is in central defence and Villa have vacan- cies in that area due to the departures of captain John Terry and Chris Samba.

The Mancunian has spent the summer on tour in America with United and has been given several opportunities to impress by Jose Mourinho. His last match came over the weekend in a 1-0 friendly defeat to German giants Bayern Munich.

Tuanzebe said: “It’s great to be back. This is a big, big club and to represent it again is a big honour for me.

“It made perfect sense for me to return for the season ahead. I know my way around the place now and owe a lot to the great people who’ve really looked after me.

“It was a no-brainer and now the ambition remains the same as last season – to reach the Premier League. I believe the squad we have here are more than capable of achieving it and playing at that level.”
