JOHN McGinn has told Villa fans: You haven’t seen the best of me yet. The 23-year-old has been the star performer in both of his outings in claret and blue – but he insists he’s still feeling his way into the league.

And after providing three assists in his opening two games in the Championship, McGinn has promised plenty more.

“There is a lot of room for improvement,” he said. “I feel as if I started okay but everyone at the club has not seen the best of me yet.

“I still feel there has been a roughness to my play the last couple of games. There is a lot better to come.

“I’m pleased with the assists so far but I want to help the team and make my own game better. Hopefully I can do that, starting on Wednesday.”

McGinn admits he’s looking forward to the challenge of lin- ing up against new players. “It’s a different style of football, a different league, a different challenge,” he said. “I think you get less time on the ball here, that is for sure.

“You need to be brave, stand up to tackles. That’s something I thrive on. You don’t realise how competitive this league is until you come down and see it.

“So far I am thoroughly enjoying it. Everyone is up for the battle and wants to prove they can be the team to go up.

“We have no divine right, being Aston Villa, to go up. Saturday (at Ipswich) proved that. We know we need to be at it a bit more. “I feel like I am stepping up a level so there is still a bit of getting used to that and the players I am playing with. It is coming, though. I can feel

it.” Villa goalkeeper Orjan Nyland had an afternoon to forget at Ipswich, dropping a clanger gift Ipswich an equaliser in the 1-1 draw at to Portman Road.
