Revealed: How Che caught keeper off guard!

-

BIRMINGHAM City match-winner Che Adams has revealed how he deceived Leeds goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell and stressed how much playing for Blues means to him.

The 22-year-old hogged the headlines at Elland Road with his two first-half goals enough to hand Blues their first win of the campaign – against the league leaders.

It was Adams’ best display of the campaign and his first brace for Blues in the Championship as he boosted his tally to three for the campaign.

And while some criticised Peacock-Farrell for his part in the opening goal, Adams recalled how he made the opportunity himself.

“I think in the end he has tried to read me,” the striker said. “He thought I was going to go to the far corner but I have reversed him back and caught him off guard.

“That (the second goal) is something I work on a lot in training. I think that type of finish goes through a lot of defenders’ legs and it’s very hard to defend against.

“I feel much stronger, much more physical than I was last season and mentally stronger. I relish the two up top, you know what you are going to get from Jukey, flick-ons, working hard and I have to try and replicate that with adding my fair bit as well.

“It’s a massive confidence boost, scoring in any game is going to boost my confidence, to get the three points as well is going to boost the team all round.”

Adams recognises his was the kind of display he needs to produce week in, week out.

“That’s my challenge, a lot of the lads have said that to me and said that’s the standard we have to play at now and what we did at Leeds and I think we are going to do that a lot more over the season,’’ he said. “As a striker you just want to score goals and help the team, the defence has been amazing over the last couple of weeks. It’s about time we take the pressure off them.”

The 2-1 victory saw Blues move up the table and was reward, not only for Saturday’s display, but for the sequence of solid efforts the team have put in of late.

“We have deserved it for the performances we have put in over the last couple of weeks, the lads deserve it, the fans deserve it, to be part of Birmingham means so much to us,” Adams continued.

“You have got to take a few bruises for the team, I got a busted lip in the second half, but that’s what it means to get the three points in the Championship.

“The gaffer has been amazing, and his coaching staff, everyone is together and we are moving in one direction together, I think the fans can see that. Every chance feels so important, in the past couple of weeks we hadn’t been getting the rub of the green.

“It was just a relief (to beat Leeds). We have to back it up, it’s a quick turnaround again, that’s the Championship, it’s demanding and every game is going to be difficult.”
