GLOBAL engineering firm WSP has moved its 700-strong Birmingham operation to a new home at the Mailbox.

The 46,700 sq ft office space underwent a £7 million renovation ahead of the move which has brought together four separate offices in Birmingham and a fifth in Coventry under one roof.

WSP has worked on several high-profile projects in the city, including the Bullring, Grand Central and Three Snow Hill, and is currently leading the design and delivery of the new HS2 station in Curzon Street.

The offices were designed by WSP’s own team in conjunction with fit-out firms Idaco and Overbury.

Director at WSP Malcolm Davidson said: “This move is a key milestone for WSP, one that highlights our commitment to Birmingham and the Midlands.

“We wanted this office to embody our specialist approach and strive for excellence and it provides the perfect location for our staff to thrive and continue to deliver the high-calibre work we’re known for.”

Andrew Wood, managing director of Overbury’s central region, added: “The Mailbox is such an iconic Birmingham building and we are honoured to have been entrusted with the transformation of what is one of the largest office floor plates in the Midlands, into a modern high-quality the future.

“While the project did present some logistical challenges, including managing the fit-out around members of the public and keeping noise to a minimum for (neighbouring tenant) the BBC, we’re thrilled to see the workplace fit for finished piece and WSP already enjoying the space.

“Birmingham has had a record few years in terms of take-up of office space and as demand continues to grow for grade A space, there’s a real opportunity for landlords to refurbish their space.” staff
