David taking Stock of his situation...

- David Stockdale

DAVID Stockdale has spoken of his hope for a solution to his situation at Blues.

The 33-year-old played for Coventry City on Saturday, keeping a clean sheet in their 1-0 victory at Rochdale.

That might turn out to be his one and only appearance of an emergency loan spell if the Sky Blues’ goalkeeping shortage eases.

If that turns out to be the case Stockdale will return to Blues, for whom he is yet to make an appearance this season after being frozen out by Garry Monk.

That is unlikely to change in the final third of the campaign, after which his future will once again return to the agenda.

“I’ve just been training with the Under-18s, keeping out of the way and keeping my head down and hoping things like this come along to prove I am still there and basically show people that you’re good enough,” said Stockdale.

“You have to go out and show it. You can’t just sit behind performances year after year that you made a few years back.

“You have to show people and hopefully I can keep doing that. I’m just not in the manager’s plans, which is football.

“Hopefully something comes along in the summer. I’ve got another year on my contract. I’d like to fight for my place but sometimes that’s not possible.

“So sometimes these are the types of things you have to do to get games.”

Stockdale’s appearance for Coventry was his third emergency loan of the season, after time with Wycombe and Southend, and came at very short notice.

He played well at Spotland and was roundly cheered by the travelling fans.

“It was nice to get some minutes,’’ he said.

“I only knew four or five names and they were my backline but as long as they know what I’m saying, that’s what matters.’’
