‘Posh Snobs’ offers a bit of class for clubbing professionals

-

IT’S not snobs’ is insult...

Yet a new Birmingham city centre nightclub is just that – the high-class version of iconic Brum nightspot Snobs.

Theatrix, in Colmore Row, opened last Friday – and is run by the people behind Snobs. Owner Wayne Tracey said he set out to create a club that was a ‘high-end Snobs’.

Housed at 130 Colmore Row – formerly the home of the Jailbird bar which closed suddenly in January – the grade II-listed former bank has had a very glitzy facelift.

Mr Tracey said: “Our nearest competitor is Be At One but we are bigger – the amazing high ceilings in this building will give us more a clubby vibe.

“I also want this place to feel more relaxing as well as being a fun place to go after work and at the weekend.

“We will be open in the daytime as a bar and serve food, but I don’t want Theatrix to be known as a cocktail bar or a restaurant.

“This is a club firstly and foremost. often the phrase ‘posh anything other than an And there playlist.

“Although the main club area is upstairs, the seating in the bar is so lightweight that it can be moved away to create a dancefloor. There

will

be

a

varied

music will be a DJ on both floors. We will also have live acts upstairs.”

Mr Tracey added: “Theatrix is about bringing fun and entertainment to the Colmore Row area’s professionals. There are barristers, solicitors, accountants, media professionals in the area who have lots of choices for drinking and eating, but nowhere nearby that has a dancefloor.

“Mechu’s

gone,

Chameleon’s gone. Theatrix is going to fill that gap in the market.” Mr Tracey, who is from Northfield, took over the running of Snobs in 2002. The club relocated to Smallbrook Queensway in 2015 in a £2 million move.
