Law firm on track as Games sponsor

BIRMINGHAM law firm Gowling WLG has been appointed to give legal advice to organisers of the 2022 Commonweal­th Games.

The practice is also the first official sponsor to be confirmed for the games which will take place at venues across Birmingham and the West Midlands.

In its role as exclusive official legal adviser, it will spend the three years leading up to the games supporting the staff who are organising the multi-sport event which will welcome athletes and visitors from across the world to the city. The firm’s diversity and inclusion team will lead on one facet of the contract which will focus on using the games to inspire the different communitie­s across the city and West Midlands region.

Other work will include advising on corporate governance, procuremen­t and general commercial matters, brand protection, disputes and risk management.

The firm’s multi-disciplina­ry legal team is led out of its office at Two Snowhill by partner Michael Luckman who will work closely with Birmingham

2022’s chief legal officer Caroline McGrory.

Ian Reid, chief executive of Birmingham 2022, said: “I’m delighted to announce Gowling WLG as our first official sponsor. This is a very exciting time as we’ve just passed our three years to go milestone and our workload is starting to increase.”
