Couple found stolen Range Rover in same garage as previous theft

-

A BIRMINGHAM couple turned detective to track down their stolen £82,000 Range Rover – and found it in the same garages where crooks stashed it in a previous theft.

When police failed to find the luxury 4x4, Lokesh Sharma and Geetinder Kaur took to the streets and found it hidden in an Edgbaston garage five minutes from their home.

Dr Sharma, a GP, was alerted to the theft by the vehicle’s tracker alarm system.

“I called the police immediately, and they were chasing the tracker,” he says. “But within five minutes the thieves had taken it out.”

Police revealed the tracker had been thrown out onto nearby Sir Harrys Road.

But it was the second time the car had been stolen. Thieves took it six months earlier but it was recovered by police from a garage behind flats in Ashley Close, off Carpenter Road, in Edgbaston.

“My wife said because last time the car was parked in one of the garages, why don’t we go back and try there?” said Dr Sharma.

“We went around clicking the key fob, then we had a huge surprise. Suddenly, we heard a car door unlock inside one of them. The car was inside. We called the police and they recovered the car but the thieves had stripped everything out so it’s probably going to be written off.”

The couple had originally parked their other car across the driveway to stop the Range Rover being stolen.

But the three hooded thieves starting up the keyless entry 4x4 with a gadget before one hopped inside and started reversing.

They used the Range Rover to shunt the other car back a few yards, then drove over the garden and escaped.
