Terry’s all goal-d for McGinn!

-

HAT-TRICK hero John McGinn has revealed who he’s got to thank for his Scotland goal glut –

John Terry.

Inspirational Aston Villa midfielder McGinn has been working on his attacking threat with assistant head coach Terry in training at Bodymoor Heath.

McGinn has scored three goals in the Premier League this season and the practice is clearly paying off on the international stage too, with the 24-year-old bagging his first hat-trick – against San Marino in Sunday’s 6-0 European qualifying victory at Hampden Park.

It took his tally to seven for the campaign and he said: “The goalscoring is something I have been working on because I used to be a more defensive player.

“Credit to the staff at Villa, I am working tirelessly on making runs into the box and making myself more useful up the park. It seems to be paying off right now so hopefully I can carry it on. The manager and all the coaching staff, Rich [O’Kelly] and JT, at Aston Villa have helped me in trying to be more of a goal threat.

“They always do certain things individually, watch a lot of clips and analyse the game. John Terry believes you can be your own man.

“I’m pretty different to everyone he played with – he reminds me of that alll the time – and just wants me to work on those late runs into the box.

“I was very raw before and maybe still am a little bit but I’m trying to cut that out and become better all the time.

“There’s no better place to do that than Aston Villa. I want to keep taking that responsibility and keep scoring for club and country.

“It’s the hardest thing to do in football. I used to find it very difficult but I’m finding a little bit easier and hopefully I can carry on.”
