In a cosy cottage

ELLE MAY RICE discovers the joys of holidaying in the colder months in Anglesey

-

HOLIDAYING close to home as we head into winter doesn’t appeal to many. As the leaves change colour and the temperature drops, it’s easy to see why staycationing at this time of the year has a bad reputation in the UK.

I’ll admit, I had my doubts about heading off on a holiday which wasn’t going to leave me sitting by a pool, getting tanned.

However, with the help of Sykes Cottages, which has been letting holiday cottages for more than 25 years, I realised there are some places with the potential to take away all your doubts in one fell swoop.

Chybean in Newborough, Anglesey, is one of them.

I spent a weekend in the cosy Chybean wood cabin with some of my nearest and dearest, and now I look at holidaying in the UK in a different light.

One weekend spent in the beautiful countryside property, surrounded by rolling hills and sandy beaches meant relaxation in every form.

After a short drive through the countryside I found myself in the peaceful, seaside village of

Newborough, where, hidden on a tiny road and giving views of sprawling fields, sat Chybean.

Taking a sharp turn onto a narrow road, Chybean stood out among the few homes in view, with its glass front and rustic wooden beams.

The attention to detail is clear from the off, with a folder filled with everything we’d need to know, and essentials already in the cupboards.

Chybean had everything we’d need to make it a home from home for the weekend, including bath towels, washing machine, a kitchen and a smart TV.

The house sleeps six so it’s perfect for groups of friends, or a family, and we were able to spread out and make the space our own. If it wasn’t for the beautiful surroundings of North Wales, it would have been extremely difficult to pull ourselves away from the comfort the house offered.

I could imagine spending endless days just relaxing and enjoying everything Chybean has to offer.

The surrounding areas called to us though, and spending time wandering around or making trips to local markets in nearby Llangefni was the perfect way to explore.

With the beach just a three-mile walk away we could hardly resist, losing hours in picturesque settings.

After hours outside in the cold, it was great to get back to the underfloor heating, steaming hot showers and deep, freestanding bath at Chybean, before settling in for a night of games, food and relaxation.

Making the most of the enormous kitchen, which provides everything you’ll need including pots, pans, plates, glasses and more, we enjoyed a hearty home-cooked meal before enjoying the board games provided.

The following day we chilled out in style at Chybean, relaxing in the hot tub with a glass of wine.

I didn’t even mind the light rain falling on me when I was in the comfort of the warm, bubbling water.

Out-of-season breaks in the UK have certainly won me over – and so have hot tubs.
