INSTAGRAM LIKES TO BE HIDDEN

SOCIAL media site

continues to try to find ways to make its platform less damaging to its users’ mental wellbeing.

It has been testing a feature on the platform whereby the number of likes a photo has received is hidden from all except the original poster.

The idea is that people do not get so wound up if their pic isn’t liked so much, as no one else knows. Particularly good news, I would say, to any fragile teens who live their lives online.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri revealed this week that the new feature will be tested in the US, starting next week, after trials in other countries proved successful.

That’s a big step and a big change, but one which means the hiding of likes should be coming to the UK soon.

And not before time.

BRITBOX BEGINS AND DISNEY+ REVEALS ITS LAUNCH DATE

– the subscription streaming TV service from the BBC and ITV has launched.

It costs £5.99-a-month after a 30-day free trial, and offers a massive selection of boxsets – there are documentaries, comedies, dramas and films.

The general idea is this is where shows end up once their time on the catch-up services iPlayer and ITV Hub are over – usually after 12 months.

Some original content is planned as well. Anyway, there are shows like Broadchurch, Extras, Inside No 9, Victoria, and Wolf Hall all live now.

A big draw will be the 600 episodes of classic Doctor Who that’ll be on the service by Christmas. It sounds like good value for some of the best TV ever made, and will get better next year when Channel 4 and Channel 5 join.

Meanwhile, Disney has revealed the UK launch date for its streaming service – will switch on over here on March 31.
