The movie, which has already had fans calling for an Oscar for star Joaquin Phoenix, below, has to be one of the most divisive of a generation.
It’s been accused of being “too dangerous for these times” in some quarters, yet has been hailed as the bet movie of the year in others.
Joker is also the first Warner Bros movie to hit the billon mark since Aquaman in December last year.
While a super-hero movie grossing $1bn is nothing unusual, Joker’s dark tone and adultorientation makes its achievement quite something.
