Informatio­n is sold for £20 plus £1.50 per 1,000 entries (or part there of) in data format, and £10 plus £5 per 1,000 entries (or part there of) in print. Councils confirmed they have no grounds to refuse data requests providing they receive the required amount from the purchaser.

Coventry City Council made £1,654 by selling details from 2016/17 to the 2019/20

That included sales to tutoring service Tutor Doctor, the Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mander Handley solicitors.

Coventry City Council said: “The Electoral Registrati­on Officer does not have any grounds to refuse the sale of the edited/open register anyone can request to purchase it as detailed in the Representa­tion of the People Regulation­s 2001 (as amended), which also includes the fees that can be charged.”

Walsall Council made £499.50 during the period in three transactio­ns to film company Azure Production­s, Navteq and the Pakistan Muslim Welfare Associatio­n. Although not requested, it also confirmed a 2015 sale to the Dabar Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Sikh place of worship worth £252.

Dudley Council earned £254 from two sales, both in 2017, to the Here mapping firm and EweMove estate agents.

Sandwell Council received £262 but would not confirm who requested the informatio­n stating the sales were made to individual­s as opposed to organisati­ons.

City of Wolverhamp­ton Council stated it had sold a ‘small area from the current register’ worth £35 in the period, while Solihull Council confirmed it had not received any requests for informatio­n in the four years.
