Yes, when I started envisioning the idea, I thought of all the amazing women in town and how fun it would be to all come together and play Kate’s music. I also thought it would be interesting to share the lead vocals around because I knew that everyone was an amazing singer and of course Kate’s music and voice is so dynamic and acrobatic it requires all eight of us to do it right!

What makes you stand out from other Kate Bush tribute acts?

I think the fact that we’re a group of eight women from America is pretty wild! But apart from those obvious reasons, I think people really appreciate the fact that we’re not attempting to do any imitations. We’ve interpreted the songs in a way that feels really authentic to us. Our show comes from a genuine place of love and respect of

Kate’s work and I think our audiences really sense that and enjoy experiencing her music in a whole new way.

You’ve already been to the UK once, including a show at The Night Owl in Birmingham. How did you manage to take flight so soon?

Hounds of love... Baby Bushka perform the songs of Kate Bush (left) in their own inimitable style

So when we decided to do that very first show I don’t think any of us knew what to expect after. There was no plan to “be a band” or anything, it was just a one time event and we were too busy trying to learn all the music, which was really complex. But when the time came to do the show we were blown away! Not only by the reception we received, but by what we had created... Baby Bushka! I think all of us felt that we had no choice but to “be a band” after that. And, of course, our next thought was, “Let’s go to the UK next!” We spent the first half of the new year planning and raising funds to get all eight of us across the ocean and we did it! Only 10 months after we played our first show, we were flying to London to begin our debut tour across the UK and Ireland. It was unbelievable, I think we’re still pinching ourselves about it.

How did you find British audiences?

We had such a great experience. During that first show in London, we didn’t know what to expect from the audience compared to back home. But half way through our set when we played The Man with the Child in his Eyes, a ballad with just voice and piano, we actually heard the audience singing along to every word! They were so loud

that we could hardly hear ourselves and it was incredibly moving. We realized in that moment how meaningful Kate’s music was to these people and it made that shared experience even more powerful. I think it’s safe to say... that every time we perform we are moved to tears. Moved by the music, by the people in the audience, by each other... perhaps that’s a little strange… and beautiful too.

Any special memories?

While planning our UK tour (Kate bassist, engineer and former partner) Del Palmer reached out to us and told us he would be at our show in London. We couldn’t believe it! And seeing as it was our very first show across the pond we were so nervous! But it all went very well and after the show we all hung out with him backstage as he shared stories and laughs with us! It was surreal. It was the perfect beginning to what we like to call our “pilgrimage tour”.

What can we expect from your show at the Night Owl?

We love the Night Owl because of the intimate nature of the venue and the family vibe that we were welcomed with last year. Since our first tour we’ve added a whole new second act to our show
