Mobile driving forward in PDX deal

-

AN expanding Birmingham logistics firm has acquired a rival firm after the retirement of its former managing director.

Mobile People Powered Logistics completed the purchase of Haddenham-based PDX Logistics at the end of December after the retirement of former MD Geoff Morgan.

The acquisition will see PDX double in size, by moving from a £2.4 million turnover business to a £5 million enterprise in the next few years.

The two businesses – part of the Pallet-Track network – will start working together from early 2020, with Castle Vale-based Mobile planning to invest more than £500,000 in the Buckinghamshire company, including a new IT system and upgraded vehicles.

“This is part of a buy-and-build strategy to grow the business and revenue,” said Matthew Marriott, managing director of Mobile People Powered Logistics, which celebrated its 40th year in 2019.

“We have grown within Birmingham and the West Midlands, so part of the strategy is to spread the footprint of the business which is why acquiring PDX, a fellow member of the Pallet-Track network, works well for us on so many levels. It shares the same values and ethos, there is no learning curve and we are geographically not far away.

“It is not one-way traffic, either, as there are so many synergies between the businesses. PDX also has an extensive third-party logistics and warehouse offering which will be perfect to integrate into the Mobile business.”

Both businesses will operate under their separate brands for the foreseeable future, but the deal will ultimately result in the PDX name disappearing.

Mobile currently employs around 80 people and expects this figure to grow.
