Tributes after death of respected councillor
TRIBUTES have been paid from across the political divide after the death of a ‘legendary’ Birmingham councillor. Birmingham Perry Barr Labour party announced Councillor Keith Linnecor, who served Oscott for a quarter of a century, died on Thursday, February 13.
The party tweeted: “Our city and constituency is a poorer place with the news that Councillor Keith Linnecor has passed away.
“We send our deepest condolences to Cheryl and Keith’s family and friends. Keith was one of the hardest working councillors who served Oscott for over 25 years.”
Cllr Linnecor ran a blog for his ward members but announced in December that he was reducing his caseload. It is believed he had been suffering from an illness.
City council leader Ian Ward said: “Very sad to learn that my friend and colleague Keith Linnecor sadly passed away. “Keith was a good man and one of the hardest working councillors in the city, working tirelessly to represent the people of Oscott for almost 25 years. He will be sadly missed.”
Erdington Tories said:
“Incredibly sad to hear of the passing of Keith Linnecor. He was a great champion for the community.”
Deputy council leader Brigid Jones said: “Incredibly sad news with the passing of our friend and colleague Keith Linnecor. He will be sorely missed on the Birmingham Labour Group, the council, and in Oscott, which he gave an incredible quarter of a century to.”
Councillor Majid Mahmood tweeted: “Keith was a legend. Always happy to give a helping hand, listening, and advising us at all times.”
