Ambulance worker fired for targeting female staff

-

A “PREDATORY” West Midlands ambulance worker accused of pushing a colleague to the floor of an emergency vehicle and simulating sex with her has been struck off.

Clinical support desk paramedic Alan Campbell was found to have targeted “vulnerable” women colleagues with “sexual misconduct”.

Campbell, a 999 worker for over 20 years, faced more than 30 allegations of inappropriate behaviour after a total of eight colleagues made complaints.

A tribunal panel described his behaviour as “predatory” and found his fitness to practise impaired.

A report by the Health & Care Professions (HCPTS) Tribunal Service said Campbell had worked most recently as a clinical support desk paramedic based at the emergency operations centre, assisting assessors who answered emergency 999 calls.

It said an investigation was launched following an initial complaint against him in 2018, which led to seven other colleagues coming forward.

In its findings, the HCPTS said “a striking off order was the only sufficient, appropriate, and proportionate sanction”.

The report said: “The Registrant’s conduct had been deliberate and premeditated, as evidenced by a clear pattern of behaviour. The predatory nature of his conduct had been an abuse of the Registrant’s senior position at WMAS.

“The Panel had found his conduct had been repeated in respect of seven female colleagues over a number of years. “His actions had had a severe and long-lasting impact on many of the witnesses. It was evident to the Panel that the Registrant had targeted vulnerable female colleagues in order to perpetrate his sexual misconduct.”
