Calthorpe Estates chief executive stepping down
ONE of the most prominent figures in Birmingham’s commercial property industry is stepping down from his post.
Mark Lee has spent 11 years with Calthorpe Estates, initially as chief financial officer and latterly as chief executive, and will leave the role after the historic company’s AGM in July.
The family-owned company, whose origins date back to the 1710s, owns large swathes of Edgbaston and is currently carrying out long-running commercial and residential development projects such as The Village and New Garden Square.
During his tenure, the company has also developed the Edgbaston Medical Quarter on sites including the old BBC Pebble Mill studios off Bristol Road which is home to a dental hospital and school and private hospitals.
The company has created a 50-year vision for the Calthorpe Estate which has also seen new highend bars, restaurants and boutique shops open in the area around Road.
Mr Lee said: “I have hugely enjoyed my time at Calthorpe Estates, working with a great team who have delivered so much for Edgbaston and Birmingham over recent years.
“We have put the Edgbaston Medical Quarter on the map through the transformation of Pebble Mill and the framework is now in place for rejuvenation of the commercial centre. I feel that it is the right time to pass on the baton.”
Chairman of trustees Andrew Parker said: “On behalf of Calthorpe Estates, I would like to thank Mark for his contribution to the development of the estate, safely seeing it through the initial stages of Covid-19 and working with us to plan for his successor as the team focuses on the current economic uncertainty and the continued success of the business. “We wish him the very best for the next challenge he will undertake. “We expect to make a further announcement shortly on Mark’s successor.”
