Where to quench your thirst after lockdown...

As lockdown restrictions begin to be slowly lifted people are licking their lips at the prospect of a pint down the pub again. Worcestershire has some lovely pubs, many nestled by the river or in the rich, sprawling countryside. IAN MOLYNEAUX picks 12 to

The Fleece Inn is run by the National Trust and it’s easy to understand why when you hear that the pub was actually built in the 15th century. According to its website the pub was built by a farmer named Byrd, and the pub remained in the ownership of the same family until 1977 when the final family owner bequeathed it to the National Trust. As you can imagine the pub is beautiful and an absolute treat to drink in. Under lockdown, the pub is offering a hot food delivery service, including pizzas, pub classics and a Sunday roast. The website says: “This is a Fleece volunteer run service for the village. Proceeds after costs are divided between Worcestershire NHS Trust Charity and local community organisations.”

Absolutely stunning views await you at the Manor Arms. The pub dates back to the 17th century when it was owned by the lord of the manor. If you get particularly attached while you are there the Manor Arms has six rooms for you to choose from.

The Fish and Anchor is a really beautiful pub set by the banks of the River Avon. The pub has a huge beer garden which will be extremely handy when pubs open and social distancing is a must. One customer excitedly wrote on TripAdvisor after a visit: “What a gem!”

The Admiral Rodney is set in beautiful countryside, and customers get views both towards Worcester and the Cotswolds.

Dating back to the 17th century, The Anchor Inn has a riverside terraced garden and looks out onto Bredon Hill with plenty of outdoor seating. The pub is currently serving takeaway food and alcohol.

Not strictly a pub, but with such amazing riverside views right in the heart of Worcester it would be impossible to keep it off the list. Diglis Hotel sits right on the banks of the River Severn and with so much space there is room for everyone to soak in the atmosphere.

The Old Beams is a 15th century building situated on the Areley Kings side of the River Severn. The pub is owned by a group of locals who came together to save it from closure. A lovely garden at the back of the pub is perfect for some time away from the stresses of life.

Another Worcestershire pub set on the River Severn – and that is certainly not a complaint. The grounds of this pub are huge with 14 acres of land to make your way around. The pub has been family owned since 1983.

You don’t see many pubs like the Kings Arms, with its unusual black and white timber frame. There is plenty of outdoor space to relax. The owners are doing some renovations during lockdown – see the pictures on their Facebook page.

The Fountain Inn is a traditional pub located just outside Tenbury Wells. It’s a lovely pub to sit outside and enjoy the sun, with the choice of ten rooms if you want your stay to last that little bit longer. The pub is providing takeaway food whilst closed.

A small but beautiful pub dating back to the 1830s. If you like sitting outside in the summer but can’t stand it getting too busy then this could be the pub for you.

The views at the Wyche Inn are absolutely stonking. The pub is positioned at the top of the second steepest residential road in England, giving amazing views over the Cotswolds. The pub is selling takeaway food and alcohol during lockdown and has opened a convenience shop in the bar selling basics.
