£115m village with 380 homes in the pipeline

-

PLANS for a new £115 million village containing more than 350 new houses in Warwickshire have been revealed.

Solihull-based land management firm Terra Strategic has lodged an application for the first phase of a 72-acre masterplan at the site of the former Hawkesbury Golf Club in Bedworth.

Phase one will contain 212 houses and community facilities while the overall vision is to build at least 380 residential units, comprising twobedroom apartments and bungalows, one-bedroom maisonettes and houses ranging from two to four bedrooms.

There will also be public space, foot and cycle paths, children’s play area, allotments, orchard and a 2,000 sq ft community building with an 18-space car park.

Four ponds across the regeneration site will all be retained as part of the ecological elements of the project. The application site, which was acquired by Terra Strategic in 2018, lies just north of Hawkesbury village and it functioned as a golf course between 1990 and 2006 but was historically an area for mining. It is bounded by the Coventry Canal across its entire length.

Terra Strategic’s managing director James O’Shea said: “This site has huge potential to create a vibrant new community which is only a five-mile canalside walk or cycle ride into Coventry city centre. It will have a transformative effect on the local area and we are especially keen for work to be able to commence as soon as possible in order to create enhancements to the public realm in time for the 2021 City of Culture.

“While residential land of this size and scale requires phasing considerations, submitting a detailed application for the first 212 homes has enabled us to include a significant amount of much-needed community facilities.”

Birmingham-based architects Malcolm Payne has designed the first phase.
