STAYCATION IN STYLE

FOR those hoping to fly as far away as possible from the UK this July, the newly announced quarantine restrictions have thrown dreams of holidays in sunnier climes into (yet further) jeopardy.

At the time of writing, a two week self-isolation is to be imposed on all inbound travellers. Couple this with the inevitable tightening of belts after a lean spring for most businesses (aside from the supermarkets who must be quids in) and I imagine many people will dismiss entirely the idea of a holiday abroad this summer.

European tourist boards must be feeling nervous about the season ahead. I’m trying my best to be pragmatic about this.

We have had an unseasonably dry spring, and if I squint my eyes enough on a sunny day the Irish Sea can almost pass for the Mediterranean, give or take a few wind turbines. If domestic holidays are our only option this year, restrictions permitting, then I can think of worse places to be stuck than good old Blighty.

Miles of coastline and acres of stunning countryside to explore, but holidays in the UK, even if we get glorious sunshine, don’t usually require a string bikini or anything resembling a kaftan.

But, just because your plans don’t include sun-downers on a Balearic beach, that doesn’t mean you are stuck with shorts and T-shirts.

So what does our 2020 holiday wardrobe look like?

Faithful the Brand has been inspiring us all and its floral midis, paired with trainers (New Balance for the full Instagram look) are the perfect daytime dress.

Blouses, preferably cotton with a subtle puff sleeve and some type of embroidery detail are also on my list – the very trend conscious will pair theirs with a high-waisted long skirt, but mine will more than likely be tucked under my dungarees. WYSE London has a scalloped edge pair that I’m currently lusting over, just add some Birkenstocks and a bright bag (I want an Ace & Prince striped shopper but you have to be quick, those things sell out fast!).

It’s timely that bucket hats are everywhere this season – they were practically invented to wear on staycations, just add sandbutties and a flask of tea.
