New MD for West Mids Safari Park

-

TOURIST destination West Midlands Safari Park has appointed a new managing director.

Chris Kelly has taken over the top job from Darren Chorley after nearly 28 years with the wildlife park, initially as operations director and then managing director for the past 20 months.

Mr Kelly joined the attraction in Bewdley in January as accommodation and venues director to oversee building of the luxury ‘Safari Lodges’ which include upgraded animal facilities. He previously spent seven years as short breaks director at Port Lympne Hotel and Reserve in Kent.

Mr Kelly said: “I am excited to be taking the helm here at West Midland Safari Park.

“I grew up in the Midlands and the park has always been a favourite place to visit.

“I am hugely passionate about the attraction industry and, even though the pandemic sees us in some challenging times, I have a great team here and I’m confident we can bounce back and work to a new normal.”

He added: “Myself and all the staff would like to thank Darren for being such an integral part of the park.

“His contribution and dedication over the years have helped develop it as one of the region’s most popular and well-loved family attractions.

“We wish him a well-deserved break and every success for the future.”

West Midland Safari Park has been closed since mid-March due to the Covid-19 lockdown but staff are working on plans for its reopening when it is safe to do so.
