Region must unite to fight for its BBC
DEAR Editor, I agree with Michael Bradley’s letter regarding the BBC (Post, July 9).
Whilst the proposed cuts will be nationwide, I wonder how many more cuts can realistically be made to the Midland and East of England region.
The Midland Region is the corporation’s largest by population and therefore its largest revenue provider. Yet the BBC rewards our region with two per cent of reinvestment, the lowest in the UK.
Ofcom should be investigating and demanding appropriate action from the corporation but there should also be a concerted approach from those of us within the Midlands. Sadly our political representatives have failed miserably to tackle these issues or provide any sort of leadership ever since the BBC made the appalling decision to close the Pebble Mill Studios. I suggest West Midlands Mayor Andy Street make strenuous efforts to organise Midland politicians of all parties, plus the many well known Midland celebrities, to form a high profile pressure group to campaign on behalf of our region.
The only way to get more reinvestment into our region will be by collective action.
Only then will you see programmes with a Midland interest.
Think of the great opportunities this would provide for creative Midlanders, plus the economic rewards and job creation, never mind the great PR for our region.
