Tributes to children’s nurse killed on M6

-

A NURSE who was killed in a crash on the M6 “lit up the room with her smile”, colleagues have said.

The Citroen C1 being driven by Victoria Kavanagh was involved in a collision with two lorries on Monday. Ms Kavanagh, from Oldbury, was critically injured and pronounced dead at the scene, between Junction 9 (Wednesbury) and Junction 10 (Walsall). The 41-year-old had graduated in children’s nursing 18 months ago and quickly landed her dream job, working with safeguarding children – a role she was said to have “excelled at”.

She had also just been accepted to study for her Masters in Public Health.

Ms Kavanagh’s heartbroken family said she had “so much to look forward to”.

“Victoria was a loving mother and daughter and a friend to everyone she met,” they added.

“She will leave behind a massive hole in our lives and will be forever missed.”

A tribute posted on the School and Public Health Nurses Association’s website said: “We are so very sad to hear of the tragic death of our school nursing colleague Viki Kavanagh. This is as a result of a road traffic accident.

“According to her professional lead, Sallyann Sutton, Walsall NHS Trust, she excelled at her role as a staff nurse within the school health service.

“Her supervisors and other colleagues have nothing but positive praise for her contribution to the health and wellbeing of children and young people, ‘lighting up the room with her smile’.

“She will be a huge loss to the profession.

“We offer our deepest condolences to them and her family.”

West Midlands Police is urging anyone who witnessed the crash, which happened shortly before 9am, to come forward.

The drivers of both lorries stopped at the scene and were helping officers in their investigation.
