Sex attacker given more prison time

-

AN ELDERLY sex offender jailed after a series of offences against young girls has been told to serve extra time in prison after more of his victims came forward.

Kenneth Light, 76, of Chelmsley Road, Chelmsley Wood, was sentenced to eight years and eight months after being found guilty of abusing children as young as five in September last year.

He was due to stand trial at Birmingham Crown Court this week for the rape of a 25-year-old woman in May 1976, but changed his plea to guilty.

Light, who had previously admitted six charges of indecent assault, was jailed for a further eight years and eight months.

Judge Roderick Henderson said that the effect of the sentence would be to add a further two years to the time Light has to spend in jail. He said: “You are 77 in a few weeks’ time and this time a year ago you were of previous good character. “Your large amount of sexual offences many years ago was hidden from the authorities.

“Following your last conviction there was a significant amount of publicity which, I am glad to say, led to complaints against you.”

He said two of the victims had been young girls at the time and had been of a similar age to the ones he had previously been convicted of attacking.

Referring to the rape victim, the judge said: “The rape involved the targeting of a vulnerable victim in her own home late at night.”

At the previous trial the court heard Light sexually abused two girls aged between five and 10.

The paedophile’s horrific offences only came to light after he abused one of the victims again 13 years later.

The woman, who was then in her 20s, went to the police after the further sexual assault brought back her harrowing childhood trauma.
