Baggies sweating on return of Robinson

-

WEST Brom face an anxious wait before their Premier League campaign resumes with the visit of Burnley after first-choice striker Callum Robinson (pictured) was forced to self-isolate while on international duty.

Robinson, who has three goals to his name for Albion so far this term, had been representing the Republic of Ireland and played 100 minutes of their Euro 2020 qualifier last week – a 0-0 draw in Slovakia, which ended in defeat via penalties.

The forward, who was signed from Sheffield United on a permanent deal this summer, was then identified as one of five players who missed the Nations League draw with Wales on Sunday after a positive coronavirus test emerged from inside the Ireland camp.

“A player – who cannot be named at this time – tested positive on Friday after a negative test on Monday but his case is not related in any way to that of the backroom team member who tested positive on Monday last,” read an FAI statement.

A second unnamed player withdrew from the Republic squad on Monday after testing positive for Covid-19.

He is now in self-isolation after being tested for a third time on Monday and missed this week’s Nations League game in Finland. The first day of contact between Robinson and the first player to test positive was Thursday, so the Albion man has entered into a period of self-isolation, which runs for 14 days from that point of contact.

In the meantime, Robinson will be testing himself while in isolation, and Albion await to hear whether he will be made available for that Burnley clash at The Hawthorns next

Monday, if tests return negative between now and then.
