Hal gets into hot water withWelsh camp

-

WEST Brom forward Hal Robson-Kanu was among three players sent home by Wales for breaching curfews, the Welsh FA have announced.

Robson-Kanu, who appeared as a substitute in the 1-0 friendly win over Mexico in Cardiff on Saturday, returned to his club along with Leeds United forward – and former Albion academy star – Tyler Roberts and Stoke City loanee Rabbi Matondo for breaching protocols.

A short statement from the FAW read: “Three members of the Cymru senior national squad – Hal Robson-Kanu, Rabbi Matondo and Tyler Roberts – have been released from the Welsh camp today after breaching FAW protocol.

“The three players will be returning to their respective clubs this afternoon. The FAW will not be making any further comment.”

Roberts apologised for his behaviour on Instagram, suggesting the protocol breach was staying up too late.

He wrote: “Gutted to be leaving the camp early, but rules are rules and I shouldn’t have been up later in the hotel than the set time.”

Wales, who lost their first World Cup 2022 qualifier in Belgium last week, beat the Czech Republic 1-0 in their second qualifier on Tuesday evening.

Robson-Kanu has only recently returned to the international set-up having been an absentee between 2017 and 2020, making his comeback in the 1-0 Nations League win over Bulgaria in September.

The 45-minute run-out against Mexico was his second outing of the season for his country. Robson-Kanu has made 15 appearances and scored three goals for Albion this term – all of them coming in the Carabao Cup at the beginning of the campaign.
