RAISE A GLASS

- WITH MARION McMULLEN

Yo, ho, ho. Help keep out the winter chills with a warming tot of rum.

There are lots of new offerings on the market to try as the weather turns colder. Honey Spiced Rum from Wildjac (£29, wildjac. co.uk) is a barrel-aged spiced rum infused with Worcestershire Honey and

English Coriander.

A smooth, honey spice aroma leads to a ginger, orange and vanilla finish. Spicy coriander, nutmeg and a hint of oak underpin this full bodied rum. It is also made from sustainably sourced sugar cane plantations grown in the sub-tropical climate of Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Honduras, which creates a super sweet sugar cane.

Tidal Rum is a new British rum created in Jersey and offering a warming and delicious taste that appeals as much to a newcomer of rum as a connoisseur of the spirit.

The rum (Amazon RRP £34.95) is slowly aged in oak casks and infused with rare marine botanicals that are sustainably foraged and found only at the lowest tides. Its rich golden smoothness comes from a careful blend of four cask-aged rums – from Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados and the

Dominican Republic.

British-made white rum with Tudor-inspired fruits and spices is at the heart of Shakespeare Distillery’s Jester Spiced Rum.

The £34 rum from shakespearedistillery.com offers sweet mace and cinnamon, aromatic nutmeg and warming clove that make for a light-bodied dry rum boasting fruity notes.

500 Cuts Rum is available in Original Spiced, Pineapple & Mango, Coconut & Vanilla or Cherry & Dark Chocolate. The £24 bottles from brewdog.com use sun-baked

Caribbean molasses and, the liquid is handturned and double-copperpot-distilled to give the resulting rum an intense flavour. Botanicals including Madagascan vanilla, Alphonso mango, cacao nibs and Morello cherries are then incorporated to create the final flavour.

Project #173 offers flavoured rums like gingerbread or butterscotch for £19.95. Christmas Pudding Rum will soon be available as well from Masters Of Malt

(masterofmalt.com).
