In-form Moors are flavour of the month

-

SOLIHULL Moors’ incredible run of form throughout October has been recognised with both the Vanarama National League Manager and Player of the Month awards heading to Damson Park.

The Moors flourished during a seven-game unbeaten run, keeping six clean sheets and conceding just once across the month.

Their efforts have now been rewarded, with Neal Ardley taking the managerial gong and goalkeeper Ryan Boot picking up the players’ version.

The month got under way as Ardley’s men brushed aside Southend, with James Ball’s second-half penalty adding to a first-half own goal to seal all three points at home.

Moors then faced three games on the road but weren’t fazed. A 0-0 draw at Wealdstone was added to by

1-0 victories at King’s Lynn and Hereford.

Danny Newton came off the

bench to net the winner in both games, the latter confirming Moors’ place in the first round of the FA

Cup. Moors returned home to win again, Callum Maycock’s maiden goal for the club enough for victory over FC Halifax.

There was no let-up as Ardley took his team to Altrincham.

Despite going into the break a goal down, Moors rallied and were straight back in it through Justin Donawa.

Substitute Joe Sbarra completed the comeback with a fine winning goal, while Boot was immense between the sticks.

A 0-0 draw with Yeovil completed an impressive month for Moors, who ended it with five wins and two draws from seven matches.

Meanwhile, Ardley’s team will face EFL opposition once again with a trip to League Two Colchester if they beat League One leaders Wigan in next week’s FA Cup replay.
