Racist tirade drunk jailed after attack on doorman

-

A WOMAN who was filmed racially abusing a doorman in Birmingham has been locked up for Christmas.

Sharna Walker had previously admitted racially aggravated assault and criminal damage after an incident at Figure of Eight on Broad Street earlier this year.

This week, Walker, 25, of Woodhouse Close, Worcester, was sentenced at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court to 14 weeks.

She burst into tears as guards applied handcuffs to her wrists.

Walker was also ordered to pay £500 compensation to doorman Tristan Price and was banned from the Figure of Eight for two years unless landlord JD Wetherspoon gives her permission to attend.

District Judge John Bristow concluded she was a ‘risk to the public’ and the appropriate punishment could only be achieved by immediate custody.

He said: “This truly shocking language has no place in the UK and any right-thinking member of the community would be utterly repelled by it.”

Walker had been at the Figure of Eight on May 22 moments before tempers flared.

Prosecutor Sarah Woulfe said at around 9.30pm a group of four females, of which Walker was one, was asked to leave by door supervisor Tristan Price for being ‘rowdy’.

But when he helped one of them look for a lost phone Walker took a sip of her drink and spat it at his back.

She was once again asked to leave but pushed over tables on the way before pulling the front door so hard it caused the glass to shatter. Outside Walker repeated racial slurs at Mr Price.

Ms Woulfe said the incident had ‘stayed longer’ with Mr Price than being threatened with a knife.

Judith Kenney, defending, said Walker suffered from agoraphobia and went out that night ‘against her better judgment’ and drank for ‘Dutch courage’.

She said Walker fell out with her friend and became concerned because she was left in Birmingham city centre – where she had never been out before – without her phone and did not know where the hotel was she was due to stay that night.
