M6Toll boss set to step down after three years
THE chief executive of the M6 Toll motorway is to leave his post. In a surprise announcement, the private road’s owner Midland Expressway said Andy Cliffe would step down at the end of the year but the company gave no indication about the appointment of his successor. He has been in the role for more than three years.
The 27-mile M6 Toll opened in 2003 and provides a paid-for alternative route from Cannock to Coleshill via north Birmingham.
The move comes as Midlands Expressway is added to the European
toll road and transportation infrastructure portfolio of Aleatica.
This combining of European operations follows Aleatica’s investment in Italian toll road operator Brebemi last year.
Both Aleatica and Midlands Expressway are both wholly owned by Australian outfit IFM Investors.
In a statement, Midlands Expressway said during Mr Cliffe’s tenure the motorway had undergone significant transformation and development as part of ambitious growth plans laid out by him.
“The board and everyone at Midlands Expressway would like to thank Andy for his successful leadership of the business and wish him well for his next endeavour,” the firm said in a statement.
Chairwoman Bridget Rosewell added: “We would like to thank Andy for his hard work and dedication.
“Andy leaves Midland Expressway a much stronger organisation, creating the vision and delivering on the strategy and growth plan for which he was brought into the business.”
Mr Cliffe said: “I am proud of the transformation the whole team has delivered and thank every one of them for all their hard work in delivering on the work we set out to do over three years ago.
“I will watch its development with interest and wish the whole IFM group every success for the future. I now look forward to my next challenge.”
