Worst speeders on the region’s roads revealed by police force

-

DOZENS of reckless of drivers have been caught hitting speeds of over 100mph on Midland roads, new figures reveal.

In total, 25 of the worst-offending drivers were prosecuted for going 120mph or faster on West Midlands roads over the last five years.

Three were prosecuted after being clocked doing 135mph. They were caught on the A452 Collector Road, Castle Bromwich, in 2019 in a BMW, the M6 southbound in 2018 in a Mercedes C250, and M6 near

Junction 4 at Corley in 2017 in a Volkswagen Golf.

Another hit 128mph in a Suzuki between Junctions 6 and 7 of the M42, near the NEC.

Dangerous driver Leanne Webb was jailed for four years in 2021 after ploughing into a car at more than 100mph on Wolverhampton Road, Oldbury, injuring a 28-year-old mum and her 18-month-old toddler.

West Midlands Police said the mother suffered life-changing injuries and will never recover after being hit by the £50,000 Audi SQ5 in May 2019.

Elsewhere, two motorists were clocked at 125mph between Junctions 6 and 7 of the M6 northbound and 124mph on the M6 Toll southbound at Norton Canes, both in Mercedes C220s.

Details of the cases were released to the Post by West Midlands Police following a Freedom of Information request.

Other examples of dangerous driving included a motorist who was clocked at 131mph in a BMW 320 on the M6 Toll southbound and two drivers who hit 130mph last year in a Vauxhall Insignia and a Jaguar XJ.

Thousands of speeding prosecutions also end up being cancelled every year because of faulty speed cameras, delays in issuing prosecution notices and a lack of resources, meaning some drivers get away with it.

BMW and Mercedes cars were clocked hitting high speeds most often, while a £60,000 Porsche Cayenne reached 123mph on the M6 Toll and a Tesla was spotted doing 120mph on the M6 at Junction 10.
