BIRMINGHAM’S BEST PUBS ARE TOP OF THE HOPS...

-

THE Campaign for Real Ale has named Birmingham’s best pubs.

And they’ll certainly be raising a glass at The Bull, off Price Street in the city’s Gun Quarter, after it topped the list.

The silver award went to Craven Arms, in Upper Gough Street, near the Mailbox.

And Colmore, off Colmore Row – formerly Birmingham Tap – was awarded bronze by the local CAMRA branch.

The other pubs making the top 10, in alphabetical order, were: Bartons Arms, the Jewellers Arms, Lamp

Tavern, Old Moseley Arms, Post Office Vaults, the Wellington and the White Swan.

The Bull is described as “a quirky country style pub in the centre of Birmingham, near Aston University.

The friendly back street local is one of the oldest pubs in Birmingham and has a snug, comfortable and homely feel.

The beautifully tiled Craven Arms dates back to the 19th century and has been restored and recently refurbished by Black Country Ales.

“Handpulls take prominence on the bar and in addition to three permanent Black Country beers, between six and eight changing guest casks come from breweries often new to Birmingham,” says CAMRA. “Three changing craft keg lines. Cheese boards and snacks are available at all times.”

CAMRA said of The Colmore: “Thornbridge Brewery & Pivovar converted and refurbished the former Lloyds Bank on Colmore Row as a bar in 2019. The Colmore incorporates a combination of Thornbridge beers on handpump, on draught and in bottle, with additional craft beers from Pivovar.

“The pub is welcoming to all, family friendly and serves bar snacks and pizza. Green Mountain IPA complement the range of Craft Beers, wines and spirits, including no less than 20 gins. There is a pool table downstairs. Beer list available on Untappd.”

One hundred-year-old Villa pub the Bartons Arms is a “historic red bricked Lister Lea pub, a short bus ride out from the city centre and Jewellery Quarter. The interior has to be seen to be fully appreciated with tiled walls and stained glass windows.”
