G4S staff at UHB hospital owed years in back pay

-

G4S staff working at Birmingham’s main hospital trust have been promised years of back pay following a salary dispute.

The security firm said it will remedy any owed wages for its workers at sites run by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust (UHB).

It comes after G4S staff told us they were not receiving correct pay and had involved union, Unison. G4S admitted a ‘small number’ of workers were affected due to an issue with contracts.

It said some staff were ‘not employed’ under Agenda for Change (AfC) as it was not previously ‘contractually applicable’.

But following talks with the union, and the trust, affected colleagues were recently moved to AfC contracts.

The firm said it was working with UHB, which runs the Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good

Hope and Solihull hospitals, to ‘ensure salaries are back paid’ - dating back to 2020 for some employees. G4S added it’s in contact with individuals affected.

A G4S spokesperson told the Post: “A small number of colleagues were previously not employed on Agenda for Change as it was not contractually applicable.

“Following detailed discussions with the trust, we have moved affected colleagues onto AfC contracts.

“We’re working with the trust to ensure salaries are back-paid.

This is a complex task which we’re hopeful will be completed in the next few weeks. All back pay for colleagues that were already employed on AfC has been processed.”

UHB said it was “grateful” for Unison bringing the issue to its “attention”.

A trust spokesperson said: “We were grateful for Unison bringing to our attention that there had been a change in the way G4S staff were being paid.

“We have worked closely with all parties to ensure that the disparity in pay and conditions is resolved for the small number of G4S staff affected.

“We’re happy that our discussions have reached an amicable resolution.”
