Bill and Tom make it work in hard times

- By GAVIN JONES

THE Bugle’s very own Boonyed, Billy Spakemon and his musical partner in crime Tom Stanton would like to thank all the folks who have been supporting them and their work at Russells Hall hospital over the past few years.

Support

Billy – Dr Brian Dakin to his friends – and Tom perform regular charity gigs as The Blue Granits, and despite this year’s unprecedented circumstances making things extremely difficult, they have still managed to find ways to carry on their good work.

“Obviously in the present climate we are not able to continue our residency at the hospital,” said Billy.

“But, undeterred, we have continued to find ways to support our project for this year – The Georgina Cancer Care Ward.”

Out on their travels the boys have met many Bugle readers who have given generously, as has everyone.

Last year they promised the diabetes unit a camera at a cost of £6,500, and have just been told this is now in use. This year they are buying special LED lights for the Cancer Unit to assist patients while having their chemotherapy.

“Through various methods we have been able (with the help of Chris and John Homer, Pete Brookes and Liz Nicholls) to get close on £5,000,” said Billy.

Sunshine

“Now we’re working with Dudley Council, Halesowen BIDS and Dancers in Halesowen, and we are continuing to bring a bit of sunshine in these strange times.

“We would like to say a massive thanks to all who continue to support us, and would add that if you see us about buskin’ in the streets, please put a few coppers in the bucket.

“It will make a difference!”
